One third of Irish people consider themselves to be web savvy. A total of 35% of the Irish population describe themselves as either advanced or expert Internet users – that’s in line with the EU average.

Germany scored highest with 46% and Portugal lowest at 15%.

Usage patterns in Ireland also reflect the European norms.

Forty nine per cent of Irish people say that they have used the Web in the previous month – that’s in line with the EU25 average. The Netherlands is the top performer at 85% with our nearest neighbour at 56%.

In Ireland, as in other EU countries, urban usage rates are higher than rural ones and ABC1s are more likely to use the Internet than other demographic groupings.
