Google tweaks 'similar results' feature

28 April 2010

Google is about to fine tune its “Similar” search feature that helps users find new websites that are similar to ones that they already know.

The existing “Similar” link in search results pages has been reasonably visible up to now, but knowing Google, it will have hard statistics on how much the “Similar” links are being followed and how small changes could improve usability.

As the Official Google Blog notes, “Starting this week, for queries where similar sites are likely to be helpful, we’ll display a list of ‘Pages similar’ at the bottom of the results page.”

This will give more prominence to links to these alternative sites, presumably reducing the need for users to go off to a separate results page to see these links.
