Many Irish businesses now use Google Analytics to track their website metrics, and some of these would also use Google’s Webmaster Tools.
Now you can link your verified site’s Webmaster Tools dashboard to its Analytics profile when using the same Google Account. It means you can access your Analytics data within Webmaster Tools, and have more easy access to a few Google Analytics features such as:
- Viewing your Google Analytics Referring Pages report directly from the Links to your site page in Webmaster Tools.
- Going directly to the Google Analytics Dashboard from the Analytics link in the top left bar when you’re on a site-related page
To link a verified site in Webmaster Tools to a Google Analytics profile, go to your Webmaster Tools home page, then:
- Click Manage next to the site you want
- Click Google Analytics profile
- Select the profile you want to associate with the site, then click Save
Basically it doesn’t show the Analytics data per se within Webmaster Tools, but just adds links from the “Links to your site” page in Webmaster Tools to the Google Analytics Referring Pages report within Google Analytics.
One day, perhaps, Google will have one single dashboard that integrates Webmaster Tools, Google Analytics, Keyword Research, Google Places and so on. In the meantime this looks like one small but welcome step in the right direction.
Bear in mind that if your site has multiple owners, each owner will need to link their own account to a Google Analytics profile.
